Universities submitted rich and detailed information about the impact of their research. Due to the breadth and variety of the impacts, the examples referred to in this report are grouped by theme to help illustrate how the research presented had a direct social, economic, environmental or cultural impact.
The five key themes were:
- delivering cutting edge technology with partners
- community support and safety
- improving everyday life
- fostering community
- addressing challenges affecting society.
Universities were required to submit information about an example of research impact for each UoA, detailing the impact of the research and providing information about the research associated with the impact, over the six-year reference period, 1 January 2011–31 December 2016.
This summary is drawn from impact studies that received a high rating. In total there were 637 impact studies, with 277 receiving a high rating. The high rated impact studies are available on the ARC website.
