In EI 2018, the four engagement indicators were supplementary to the engagement narrative. Their purpose was to provide quantitative evidence of links between researchers and end-users of research.

There were four compulsory indicators of research engagement with end-users included in EI 2018:

  • cash support from research end-users (specified HERDC Category 1 and Categories 2, 3(i,ii,iii), and 4)
  • HERDC research income (specified Category 1 and Categories 2, 3(i,ii,iii), and 4) per FTE
  • proportion of specified HERDC Category 1 grants to total HERDC Category 1 grants
    • grant amount
    • number of grants
  • research commercialisation income

Note: HERDC refers to the Higher Education Research Data Collection which is the annual data collection exercise undertaken by the Department of Education and Training.
