Research Commercialisation Income
This section provides detailed profiles of national ERA data by two- and four-digit FoR codes. The data was submitted by higher education institutions at the four-digit FoR code level. The two-digit FoR report the aggregated data of all the four-digit FoR codes which sit beneath the relevant two-digit FoR code.
This table shows the total amount of research commercialisation income submitted to ERA 2018 for each year of the reference period. For ERA 2018, the reference period for income was 1 January 2014—31 December 2016.
Research commercialisation income is defined as commercial returns via income and/or capital gains resulting from the commercialisation of research outputs, services and intellectual property. Under ERA 2018, research commercialisation income was treated as an 'applied measure' rather than as 'research income'.
The 'median income' column shows the middle amount submitted to ERA 2018 from an individual institution for an FoR code across the three-year reference period. The 'maximum income' column shows the highest amount submitted to ERA 2018 from an individual institution for an FoR code across the three-year reference period.
Two- and four-digit FoR codes for Law and Legal Studies (18) do not use research commercialisation income as an applied measure nor do some underlying four-digit codes in Medical and Health Sciences (11).
Please note that there are differences in the applicability of indicators for each discipline. These are specified in the ERA 2018 Discipline Matrix.
Where an indicator does not apply to a particular discipline, '-' is shown. '0' represents that the indicator applies to the discipline, but no data was submitted.
